HISTORY of CYBERTHROWS

The Cyberthrow idea was hatched in e-mail communication between Bill Patrick in South Carolina and Reed Quinn in Florida in December 1997.  They're both devotees of the Weight Pentathlon, and they considered sharing of practice marks as a good way to provide training incentive and measure their progress against that of other throwers.
The first challenge was mastering the WP scoring system.  Bill and Reed were joined by Reed's wife Lorraine in tackling that chore.  After much consultation and many hours, a viable scoring system was up and running on an Excel spreadsheet.
In January and February 1998 Bill and Reed exchanged their scores, and Bill posted them on his Web Page.
In March 1998 we polled a number of other throwers to guage interest in the program.  We extended the invitation to folks who were not "online" with the option to participate by mail.  That month it expanded to other participants with a total of 7 participants, 5 entries in the M65 age group (Bill, Reed, and 3 others), one M55 and one M50.
There were Cyberthrows results every month from March 1998 to October 2003.  Entries have come from various states in the U.S. and from several foreign countries (Great Britain, The Netherlands, Australia, South Africa, and Canada).

We stopped publishing monthly results in October 2003.  The web page will continue to be available to provide information about scoring the Weight Penthathlon.  And we will continue to be available by e-mail to provide advice and assistance for scoring.
