WEIGHT PENTATHLON SCORING

    WP Scoring is not a simple matter.  It requires the Age Factors from the IAAF tables and running the resulting age-graded mark through a formula.  It is a time-consuming nuisance without a computer scoring program or spreadsheet.  Our scoring is done on an Excel spreadsheet utilizing the 2002 age factors.
    If you have Excel on your computer and would like to do some scoring, we are willing to send you the scoresheet as an e-mail attachment.  If we previously sent you our scoresheet prior to Sep 02, you need to update to the 2002 age factors.  If you do not wish to make the adjustment yourself, let us know and we'll send you an updated version.
    If you do not have Excel or do not wish to bother with using a spreadsheet, we are willing to score for you.  Send us your marks, and we'll reply by e-mail, reporting your age-graded performances, performance percentages, and points.  cyberthrow@aol.com

SCORING FORMULA

      If you would like to try it yourself, below is the formula for converting your marks into WP points.

Points = a (Performance - b ) ^ c
( ^ is a mathematical symbol meaning "rise to a power of)

Hammer:  a = 13.0449  b = 7 m    c = 1.05
Shot Put: a = 51.39    b = 1.5 m    c = 1.05
Discus:  a = 12.91    b = 4 m    c = 1.10
Javelin:  a = 10.14    b = 7 m    c = 1.08
Weight:  a = 47.8338    b = 1.5 m    c=1.05

Multi Event Scoring
Steve Johnston of Cape Town, South Africa, has devised track and field scoring spreadsheets for the multi events.  He was kind enough to share his WP spreadsheet with us to compare with our scoring.  It is slick and easy to use, sort, and print.  Available are spreadsheets for the WP, Decathlon, Heptathlon, and Indoor and Outdoor Pentathlons.  Mr. Johnston provides the spreadsheets and instructions for nominal fees.  You may contact him at:
