Lycaon Gang May 2005

Lycaon Siberians began in 1996 when David surprised me with a card full of Siberian Husky puppy pictures in my Mother’s Day card with a message stating that I could “Go pick your puppy”. We chose a very outgoing, full of attitude, little bi-eyed black and white boy that we named Snosecret’s Mischa Alexi. Right away, we started thinking about showing him. With guidance from Mischa’s breeder, Cheryl Liddle, we entered him at 5 months in a fun match. Well, he took a second place in his class, even though I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to have him do. I had never even been to a dog show before. That was it, I was hooked!

Mischa and I spent a full year going to classes almost every week to learn to show as a team. All the work paid off when he took a 3 point major for his first points at only 18 months. Together we went on to take the full 15 points needed for him to finish his AKC Championship and even managed to take 3 majors. Boy did we learn a lot along the way.

Since becoming completely hooked on Siberians, we have worked to slowly and carefully to increase our numbers. We have “home” bred one litter of which we are very proud of the outcomes. We have also “out” bred Mischa twice and are very proud of those puppies as well. Our puppies from each of these litters are working to make names for themselves in the show ring like their parents and grandparents before them.

Not only do we show our Siberians, but we work them in harness as well. If you want to see our dogs truly excited, just stay and watch their reaction when I bring out the harnesses. We have a cart to road work them, as snow is quite scarce in Northern California. All of my neighbors know me as “That lady with the huskies” and they love to come out and see us run on by. We feel very strongly that it is important that a truly sound Siberian should be able to work in harness as well as compete in the show ring.

Our kennel goal is to produce the best quality Siberians that we possibly can. We strive to produce dogs that are friendly, outgoing, structurally sound, easy movers, and have that attitude “spark” that says “look at me”. We test our Siberians to be sure they are free of eye disease by the Canine Eye Certification Foundation (CERF) and are free of hip dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). Our dogs are raised in a loose “pack” lifestyle, so they are very well socialized and know how to relate well with other dogs. With our large family, all of the dogs have tons of hands-on human socialization from the moment they are born.

We are active members of the Mount Hamilton Siberian Husky Club where Cyndie has served as the Treasurer and the Lower Columbia Siberian Husky Club. We are always open to any inquires about our wonderful breed. Actually, it must be said, just give us any excuse to talk about Siberians and we’ll be happy to share every bit of information we can.
