Some modelers have a knack for looking at kits and parts in a way that leads to really interesting kitbashes ... sometimes it's hard to believe that it started out as something so completely different ... other times it seems "so obvious, I should've thought of that!" Here are a few neat examples to fire your imagination.

Doodlebug by Steve Wolfhope
Steve kitbashed this nifty doodlebug using a Bachmann On30 combine, the front and pilot from our 351 Boxcab and an Atlas HO U25B drive.

T-Boiler Dunkirk by Walt Gay
Outstanding! Walt took our basic 301 Dunkirk kit and added a horizontal boiler section from an HO steamer to create a distinctive T-boiler. He built up walls alongside and in front of the boiler to stack plenty of cord wood for this hard working logger. He also added a railing around the new "rear" deck, a syphon hose and several additional details to make this great bash.

Snowplow by Dave Wingrove
The finished plow looks like a real "natural" ... but we admire the imagination and planning required to build this one. Dave took a Walthers HO snowplow and did quite a bit of clever rearranging ... the rear half has recognizable parts from the BVM 507 Shorty Caboose ... the front half has a number of pieces custom built/bashed by Dave to make a real winner!

Superintendent's Shack by Jim Ellis
Well, it's not too unusual to see a freight or passenger car turned into some sort of shed ... it's just that Jim made it a little less obvious by adding a peaked roof and a number of free-standing details to make a highly detailed scene. The "shack" started out as a BVM 507 Shorty Caboose. Jim scratchbuilt the tip-out window and covered workbench. We had to look twice to recognize the caboose parts!

Long Combine by John Oxlade
John took a look at our CH-02 Combine Sides and decided to go a step further. He stretched the chassis of a Chivers (International Hobbies) Way Car and used the new BVM sides along with the original Chivers sides to make this handsome combine car.

Dunkirk Railbus by Roger Jansson
A handful of older geared locos were converted to internal combustion critters by real railroads ... Roger used this inspiration and kitbashed a 302 Dunkirk to build this railbus. He used a Bachmann HO Brill trolley mechanism to power his new creation.
