How
it all got started and the places we have been
The Red Hat Society
began as a result of a few women
deciding to greet middle age with humor and a touch
class! Sue
Ellen Cooper from Fullerton, California, is the
Exalted Founding Queen Mother.
She impulsively gave a red hat and copy of
the poem, “Warning” by Jenny Jose ph to her
friend (Exalted Vice Queen) Linda Murphy for her
birthday, and they gave red hat’s and the poem to
other friends as they turned 50.
One day it occurred to them, they should go
to tea in full Red and Purple Regalia!
This is how the national Disorganization
began in 1998!
Sue Ellen’s hope that these societies will
grow far and wide.
It now has over 17,000 chapters and a million
sisters worldwide. The Red hat Society, is open to women fifty and over who dare
to wear RED HATS with purple clothing.
Based on Jenny Joseph’s poem “Warning”.
This is a wonderful and fun organization. For more information on the National Red Hat Society visit: www.redhatsociety.com
Since the Red Hats are for
those over 50 – to be able to include in our
sisterhood those who are in waiting for this
wonderful age we introduce and accept on younger
sisters in Pink and Lavender.
So let the fun begin!
