About The Festival
The Dance Under The Stars Choreography Festival is a celebration of dance that includes choreography competitions for professional and amateur choreographers, master classes, school residencies, educational workshops and performances.
Division I, is designated by professional dancers. Finalists compete for the grand prize award of $5000, the second place award of $3000 and for the Dance Under The Stars Award, a paid engagement for a professional company. All Division I finalists will receive cash awards for performing at the festival. These awards include $1250 for ensemble finalists; $1000 for small group finalists; $750 for duets; and $500 for solos.
Division II includes pre professional dancers and young choreographers. The finalists in this division compete for a $2000 grand prize, a $1000 second place award and a $300 Junior Choreographer Award (18 and under); the finalists' placement awards for this division include $300 for ensemble, $225 for small group, $150 for pas de deux and $75 for solo.
Submission is by video or DVD. All styles of dance are encouraged to apply for participation in the festival.

About The Organization
The Dance Under The Stars Choreography Festival is presented by The McCallum Theatre Institute, the educational division of the McCallum Theatre For The Performing Arts, in assosication with The City of Palm Desert and The College of the Desert. The festival is dedicated to the advancement of dance as an art form specifically through the promotion of quality choreography. Producing venues for new choreography, providing networking opportunities for choreographers, dancers and students and building dance audiences are also objectives of the festival in addition to offering support to emerging choreographers and dance companies through opportunities of recognition and monetary awards. More than $150,000 in the past ten years has been awarded to winning amateur and professional choreographers.
