Marcy Smelder was a strange 16-year-old girl who lived with her mother in a normal suburbia setting. Instead of speaking words, she grunted, along with many other strange ways of acting. Her mother was always desperately trying to get her daughter to be normal and act like a young lady. She was always either buying girly clothing for Marcy or trying to get her to join some club at school in an effort to get her to fit in, however, no matter what outfit she made Marcy wear, it never made her rather beastly-looking daughter attractive. And as for after-school clubs, Marcy was more interested in sitting in the corner of the room while the other club members planned fundraisers and activities. She just wasn't interested in being normal.
School was just about to end for Marcy and she would finally be out for the summer. She was very much looking forward to sitting on her butt for three months and being away from the school kids that teased her. But her mother burst that bubble one day when she entered Marcy's dark room and told her she had some news. Marcy was lying on her bed as her mother came in and sat beside her. "Marcy", she said," I know you're going to hate me for this, but I've made last-minute arrangements for you to spend this summer at Camp Chipuana." Marcy raised her hairy eyebrows in surprise. "You'll be able to interact with other teens while being around lots of beautiful trees and a beautiful lake. This will be a great opportunity for you to have fun and act like a normal girl your age." Marcy's lip twitched with anger and a deep growl came from the bottom of her throat. "Don't look at me like that Marcy, you'll have fun. Sitting around here all summer will do you no good. Well, the camp brochure is downstairs on the table if you want to take a look at it, but I'm going to leave you now since you seem angry." She then stood and left the room. Marcy was so mad from the news that she dragged herself into a corner and sat there banging her head into a wall for about an hour.
Finally the joyous day came when Marcy's mother was driving her through the green forest to Camp Chipuana. "Look at the beautiful trees, Marcy! Isn't the scenery lovely?"
"Ummmph!" grunted Marcy, sitting in the back seat, as she pulled all of her hair over her face. When they arrived at the campsite Marcy refused to get out of the car. Her mother and two camp counselors ended up having to pull her out. She then plopped herself face-down on the ground and refused to stand when her mother told her to.
"Marcy, I told you not to throw a fit now get up", her mother fussed as she tugged at her daughter's limp arm. "Well, fine then. I can't get you up, so I'm just going to go now. You all should probably let her lay her a few minutes to get it out of her system", she said to the counselors. "Bye now Marcy, be good and have fun." She then got into her car and was gone. Marcy stayed still on the ground. Not far away, she had an onlooker. It was Prince William of Wales. His grandmother, the Queen of England, had sent him to camp so he could experience something that normal kids do. He was quite curious about Marcy.
"Excuse me, but what's that creature over there?" he asked a counselor writing on a clipboard.
"Oh that's just Marcy Smelder. She's having a tantrum, just as her mother said she would", he said, not looking up as he wrote.
"Marcy Smelder…" William said to himself. He then picked up a long stick and approached the creature cautiously. He then poked it in the back of the leg. No response. He poked it again. The creature suddenly let out a huge grunt that startled him. "Jeepers!" William yelled as he jumped back. Marcy then rose and, resting on her knuckles, sulked away like an ape. William was aghast.
