Author Bio
Richard Dean was born in 1965 in Elmhurst, Illinois and developed an affinity for the horror genre at an early age. In his formative years, he enjoyed a steady diet of ghoulish television series, such as Dark Shadows, Night Gallery, and The Night Stalker. He wrote his first horror short story at the age of seven.
Soon after, his penchant for the macabre carried over to movie theaters. At an age when most children could be found enjoying the latest Disney fare, Richard would be found taking in screenings of The Exorcist, The Omen, or The Fury.
Richard's love for writing bloomed into a full-blown passion in the early nineties after studying creative writing at South Suburban College in South Holland, IL. After being recognized with the College's prestigious "Scriblerus Award for Creative Excellence," he began compiling material that would evolve ten years later into his first published book, the acclaimed horror anthology Total Darkness (2002).
Richard's second book, and first full-length novel, Leech (2004) garnered the author even more praise for his relentlessly dark, yet spiritually aware, breed of horror fiction.
2005 saw the publication of Richard's third and fourth books: The eagerly awaited zombie epic Final Death, which redefined the "living dead" genre with its post-apocalyptic setting, relentless terror, and a surprising message of faith, and Sanctum of the Mind , a collection of original poetry.
Currently, Richard resides in NW Indiana with his wife, son, and several evil felines, though he continues to harbor a dream of living in Florida where he can spend his days writing on the beach.
