Happy Anniversary

Fifteen years we've spent together,
lives joined by a heartstring tether,
but recently asking whether
those days are now behind us.
Do you love me? Do I love you?
Is it enough, to say "I do?"
And is our true love really true?
So now I would remind us:
Two kinds of love we recognize:
the one burns fast, to its demise,
and turns to ash before our eyes,
destroying all it clutches.
But a steady love, burning slow,
provides heat too, albeit low,
that lets love thrive within its glow,
enriching all it touches.
So much occurs in fifteen years:
Victories. Losses. Lots of tears.
Tragedies. Triumphs. Facing fears.
Sunshine and stormy weather.
No matter what the world may do
I know I'll face it all with you,
because I'm looking forward to
a lifetime spent together.
