UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
We suggest to all new members of the 13th Guards to start out with the M-35 Field Uniform/Impression. This will cover you from 1935 to 1943. You can upgrade your impression to the M-43 Uniform/Impression (1943 to 45) at a later date, which will require you to purchase an M-43 Gymstroika (Tunic/Jacket) and M-40 Helmet -- if you start out with an M-36 Helmet, which is Opitional. You will notice that the Soviet Army Uniform is based off of Traditional Russian Dress.

HEAD AND FACIAL HAIR:
Cut your hair short, current "Boot Camp" US Military Standards are a good rule to use. Hair was to be kept short in the RKKA for reasons from Health to "Espirite De Corps". REMAIN CLEAN SHAVED, Mustaches are OK, but they must be trimmed to short -- again, US Military Standards are a good rule to use here too. Beards will be restricted to very old Reenactors who could have been a Veteran of the Russian Revolution in 1917 ONLY.  1 to 3 days growth (shadow) is OK for tactical events only, at Display and Living History Events you will be clean shaved.

EYE GLASSES:
It is required that you either wear contact lenses or purchase "PERIOD CORRECT" looking Frames.

WRIST WATCHES:
The typical RKKA soldier/Private had no such luxuary -- Officers and NCOs, yes. If you feel the need to wear a watch, you must wear a period correct Wrist type or Pocket watch. Many watches were looted from German POWs and Dead during the war. Research the correct watch or don't wear one.

UNDERWEAR/CLOTHS AND SOCKS:
Soviet Undercloths of the period very closely resembled the cut and style of US Civil War Undercloths. There were made from Cotton for Summer and a Wool Blend for Winter. The Colors of the cloths was generally Natural, White, Grey or a light Olive Drab in Color.

Summer Undershirts were either a long sleeve (light weight) button collar shirt or Athelitic Style T-shirt. They should be Natural, White or a lite OD in color. Undershorts/drawers should be boxer style or light weight full length style in white, Natural or lite OD in color.

Winter Undershirts were long sleeved thick Wool Blend, White, Natural, Grey or lite OD in color.

Winter Undersdrawers were Wool Blend, Full Length and White, Natura, Grey or lite OD in color.

(Special Note: The Blue and White Striped Undershirts were for Navel and Marine Units only -- not Army.)

RKKA soldiers didn't typically wear socks until mid to late war. They wore cloth Foot wraps which were Triangluar shaped and made from Cotton or Wool. For additional warmth in winter extra foot wraps were added or cloths were stuffed inside boots for insulation. Socks will be allowed for wear, but they must be  thick Cotton or Wool types without racing stripes in Grey or Natural colors -- NO HOT PINK!
