BANTHA CANYON
Somewhere on the Internet a fan had posted that Bantha Canyon could be found 3.7 miles south of the 190 Highway on the road to Badwater. Without these precise directions we never would have found the "unmarked" dirt road leading to Desolation Canyon. It was here where the scenes of the Sand People mounting their Banthas were shot. The Bantha (actually there was only one) was in reality an African Elephant named Mardji, on loan from Marine World. Since the film crew had Mardji to contend with they never ventured far from the road, therefore the location was relatively easy to find once we were inside the canyon. Debbie and I even had time for a picnic lunch, however if you do the same, please DON'T FEED THE BANTHAS.
