Checker After
CHECKER MARATHON
1976 A12
AFTER
In the words of the Grateful Dead, "What a long, strange trip it's been."

When I bought my Checker in March 2001 I never imagined it would take this long to get the car to its current state. But getting parts from all over the country...trying to have the car worked on while the body shop took care of its other business...the time didn't exactly fly by.

But to FINALLY see the car without rust, to see it painted a beautiful indigo blue, to see the bumpers, the grille and the other chrome pieces shining in the sun...let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

For the uninitiated, this is a 1976 Checker Marathon A12 sedan. The taxicab we all know and love is the A11 (older Checkers had earlier model numbers).  The sedans also came with the ever-popular jump seats. I have the jumpseats for my car, but they're not installed, as the kids love having the extra room in the back.  Maybe when they're older I'll put them back in.

My sincere thanks go to the members of the Checker e-mail group, the members of the Checker Car Club of America and the folks who visit the Checker Taxi Stand website.  These enthusiasts answered my questions, found the parts I needed and sent me more information than I could possibly hope for.  I hope to catch up with them at Checker meets down the road.

If you want to find out more about Checkers, or just want to see some cool pictures, click on the Checker logo below to visit the Checker Taxi Stand.  I think you'll enjoy it.

So now it's time to roll down the windows and cruise around town!
