Debgirlpower's Afghan Pattern Page

Debgirlpower's Afghan Crochet
 Diagonal Afghan.

This may be made with any type of yarn, any colors, any widths of colors, and with any size hook that you choose.  For my afghan I choose to use Red Heart black yarn for 4 rows, and various ombres for two rows.  The afghan can be made to any size square that you choose.

Directions:

Chain 4.

Row 1:  Work 3 DC's into 4th chain from the hook. Turn.

Row 2:  Chain 3, work 3 DC in first DC and 3DC into top of turning chain.  Turn.

Row 3:  Chain 3, wirk 3 DC into first DC, then work 3 DC between the DC groups, work 4 DC into last DC, turn.

Continue to work Row 3 until the piece measures half of the desired size.  Then begin the decrease rows as follows:

Chain 3, 3 DC between next DC group ( you have eliminate one DC set with this step).  Then work 3 Dc between the DC groups  across until you reach the end.  At the end, work ONE DC and turn.  (This eliminates another DC group)

Continue this process until you are down to one DC group and finish off!

Pilloghan for Grandma's 87th Birthday

YarnGuy gave me the inspiration to try this concept.  It is quick and easy.
Make thirteen, 18 inch blocks.  You can use any style granny square that you like.  I used Red Heart worsted weight yarn, a G hook and the following pattern.

Basic Granny Square:
Chain 6, join to form ring.
Round 1:  CH 3. 2 DC into ring, CH 2.  Then 3DC into ring CH 2, three times. join to top of first chain 3.
Round 2-14:  Chain 3.  DC in each DC to corner.  In corner:  2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC. (do this all the way around.)
Round 15:  Change to white thread and repeat stitiches as in Row 2.
Fasten off.

Assemble the blocks 4 down and three across.
You will place 2 blocks in the center top position.  The top block (of the two blocks) will only be joined at the sides and top.  The bottom is left open, as an opening of a pillowcase.

I assembled my blocks using SC's.

How do you fold it up?   With the case opening facing down, fold the two sides in toward the center blocks.  Then fold the end up twice.  Now you have a stack of blocks.  Then turn the pillowcase inside out to put the blocks inside the pillow.   VOILA!

This is the finished afghan.  The top center square is actually two squares.  The sides and top are sewn but the bottom is left open on the top square.

Place the afghan with the pillow opening side down.  Fold in both sides.

Then turn the pillow inside out. This will allow you to push the afghan into the pillow opening.

PENTAGON SHAPED

I used a size H hook and worsted weight yarn.

Here is the pattern:

Round 1":  Chain 3, Slip stitch to form a ring.  Chain3, 2 DC, Chain 1, *3DC,
chain 1* three more times.  Attach with a slip stitch to top of chain 3.

Round 2:  Slip stitch to chain one space. In chain 1 space work: Chain 3, 2DC,
Chain1, 3DC.  In next chain 1 space work 3 DC, chain 1, 3 DC. Continue this
around.  Join with a slip stitch to top of chain 3.

Next round and every round hereafter:  Slip stitch to next chain 1 space.
Chain 3 to count as first DC.  In every CORNER SPACE work 3 DC, chain 1, 3
DC.  In the spaces between work 3 DC.

Keep adding rounds until the afghan is the size desired.

It is worked with yarn that I purchased from Aunt Mary's Mill ends for 10 cents
an ounce!
