Welcome to the meeting page of the KCMO Chapter of The Mars Society. The KCMO chapter is currently the only Mars Society chapter in Missouri and is introducing this page as a means of establishing a state wide meeting place for Mars Society members in Missouri.

“The history of the world is made by those that show up”, for things that are worthwhile. If you have to drive a long distance and there are only a few people waiting for you, it is not really worthwhile to go to the events. However, if you don’t have to put much effort into getting somewhere and you find those few people that are willing to listen then it makes it worthwhile to go to an event. That is what this Chat Page is established to do. Make it worth your while.

Hypothesis: Long Duration Space Flight requires a very different approach in comparison to short duration Space flight. The theory here is that small percentage shortfalls in consumable supplies on long duration Space flights will result in mission critical or mission fatal shortfall situations. Crew friction that is very minor on short duration Space missions will have a tendency to turn into inflamed confrontations on long duration Space missions, if there is not a means of creating distance from fellow crew members for private time away from fellow crew members. Private quarters for each crew member is strongly suggested.
Project Objectives:
Long term crew interaction
1. Determine suggested crew interaction characteristics both cooperation and crew friction on a simulated Space mission using mice as the crew. Simulation time 3 months. This time length was chosen to approximate a comparison of mouse life span and human life span. Mice can live at least 36 months in a risk free environment and 36 years is about the amount of time a human needs to mature, reproduce and have their offspring grow to maturity; this is the minimum successful life span of a human. For the purposes of this experiment 1 month is taken to equal 1 year for the mouse crew. The question to be answered here is how long can mice in a sealed container tolerate each other?

HACCP regarding Long Term Space Flight
2. Using Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Procedures developed for food safety during manned Space missions, the objective is to determine the critical points in food safety and how small percentage shortfalls in food supply affect a long Space flight. Human participants are used to obtain data in this segment of the experiment. At what point in a Space mission duration is onboard food production suggested to be required.

Landing Simulations.
3. Using a flight simulation program as the guide in this experiment the objective was to determine the likelihood of a successful landing.

Long term crew interaction: Simulation.
1. Five mice were used in this experiment to see how long they could live together in a “closed” environment . Food water and air was supplied to them and at intervals waste was removed. All the mice had to do was deal wi

Club Membership Information

The Mars Society Kansas City Missouri Chapter Membership Form
Promoting The Civilization of Space.

(__) YES, I want to join The KCMO Chapter of The Mars Society and promote Space related issues with others. I know that space exploration and development are important to the future of our nation and the planet. I understand that I am entitled to all benefits of annual membership in the KCMO Mars Society chapter, including a subscription to The Delta Vee News E-Zine, a nationally distributed e-mail based newsletter on space exploration and its eventual development.
Enclosed are my Membership dues of:
Introductory Membership (__) FREE. (__) $20*. (__) $50**. (__) $100***.
(__) Other $_________.
* Minimum individual membership.
** Your designation is a Delegate member you have one vote on projects and activities.
*** Delta Vee Network Fellowship Member $100 or more. You are on the Fellowship Delegate member voting block. The advantage here is your vote is increased. Delegate members have one vote, the minimum fellowship members have two votes, the $500 member has ten votes. The $1,000 contributor has 20 votes. The KCMO Chapter of TheMars Society wishes to establish a cost justification for contributions, when a member contributes more than the rest that person should have a greater say in how the organization is operated, there should also be a safety valve on contributors objectives. If a contributor wants the organization to go substantially outside of the mainstream space interest focus, we will reject your contribution. At the KCMO Mars Society Chapter we will have integrity first and profit second. The KCMO Chapter Director George Howard reserves the right to veto any votes that are not in the interests of The KCMO Chapter. Votes are a means of suggesting activities for the organization to give members a say in the organization.
What you receive with your membership is The Marsian Hitch Hiker's Guide to Space Interest, an Internet document that keeps you in touch with The KCMO Chapter of The Mars Society through the power of "Browser Mail" an HTML based mailing system that you receive only when you want it. Plus the most exciting thing about The Hitch Hiker's Guide it is also a conventional news gathering tool. It brings to you several different types of journalism, Space news, International news, TV news, and Newspaper news. The KCMO Chapter provides you with a utilitarian device that you can use every day. Plus for a limited time only you will get the Triple R Company Energy Project booklet when you join (Dues paying members only). The booklet teaches the reader how to produce alternative energy fuels. This is potentially very important in today's changing world.
