Locale

I live in Northwestern Connecticut, and Martha's Vineyard, USA, and play throughout New England.

My Interests

Especially Early Music. I'm an avid reader, writer, artist/designer, quilter, musician & dancer. I play seven sizes of recorders, English concertina, hammered dulcimer and whistle, and am learning to play harp, bowed dulcimer & viola da gamba. I enjoy playing Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque & Traditional New England, Quebecois, English, Scottish & Celtic music.

Dancing interests have included English Country Dance, Vintage Dance, Contra Dance, Scottish Country Dance.

I am also a lifelong environmentalist, hiker and supporter of progessive causes.

I've exhibited my artwork widely (mainly paintings and drawings) in over 50 shows and currently content myself with quilting, knitting and designing the finishing touches on my house, which I also designed myself.

Son Sascha Meinrath (www.saschameinrath.com) has recently married Faith Swords and moved to the DC area. He is Research Director for the Wireless Futures program for the New America Foundation (www.newamerica.net) and is a leading expert in community broadband wireless systems and is working in communications technology and policy. Daughter Katharine Santalla is currently nearing the end of a 6-year, Master of Architecture degree at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. And remains a rabid and unrepentent Yankees fan.

Beloved daughter Shawna Renee Meinrath (July 27, 1976 - June 26,1995 was a gifted musician, actress, linguist and community leader, having completed her first year at Reed College at the time of her death.

My Professional Activities

I have completed the coursework for the Music for Healing and Transition Program. (www.mhtp.org) I currently play music as Hartmusik, and in groups: HomeBrood (Celtic & Traditional), Nutmeg Consort (Renaissance, Baroque and Contemporary), Evergreen (flexible combination for special events), the Central Connecticut Scottish Chamber Ensemble & Pub Band, and with others, as requested for private parties and English Country and Contra dances.

I occasionally take commissions for quilted items, calligraphy, costuming, paintings under the umbrella "Hartworks."
