Damascus Help
Organization Overview

Damascus Help is a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization whose main purpose is helping people who find themselves with emergency needs.  Our service areas are located in Northern Montgomery County, Maryland with zip codes of 20871, 20872, 20876 North of Brink Road, and 20882 North of Brink Road.
Services

Groceries - Deliveries are made by volunteers after receiving requests from persons in need.  This food comes from monetary and food donations and food drives conducted by local churches, schools, Scout Troops, 4-H Groups, and businesses.

Furniture and Household Items - Provided to families or individuals coming out of a homeless or fire situation.

Transportation - Transportation is provided to persons for medical and social service appointments when they are unable to provide their own.  A three day advance notice must be received.

Financial Assistance - Emergency financial assistance is available on a case-by-case basis.
Examples:
Rent/Mortgage - to prevent evictions.
Utilities - to prevent disconnect.
Medical - when client can't afford it.
Shelter - temporary for the night.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
Food Committee needs drivers to be on call for five days to deliver food either for the day or evening shift.

Officer of the Day Committee needs people to answer the Help-line telephone one day a month.

Transportation Committee needs people to drive individuals to appointments.

Upcoming Events

October 13, 2002 - 32nd Annual Upper Montgomery County CROP Walk will held at the Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Md.  The 10KM walk starts at 1:30PM and lasts until 4:30PM.  Walkers, Sponsors, and volunteers are needed and should contact their local HELP group to participate or call 301-253-4100 for information.

The purpose of the CROP WALK is to raise money for self-development and feeding the hungry locally and worldwide.  Local HELP groups receive 25% of the money raised from their areas.  HELP groups from Damascus and Olney  will be walking.
