Shambhala Meditation Group of
Southwest Michigan is devoted to the practice and study of teachings by Tibetan
meditation master, artist, and scholar Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. We are affiliated with
Shambhala International, a network of many similar groups in the United States, Canada, and
Europe. Shambhala International was founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and is directed by his son and spiritual heir Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
The three gates to Shambhala are Buddhist practice (Vajradhatu), Shambhala Training, and
contemplative arts (Nalanda). We intend to offer programs from all three gates in the Southwest Michigan area.
The core practice of Shambhala is mindfulness-awareness meditation. This meditation practice enables us to look precisely at our state of mind, moment by moment. By not manipulating or altering our experience, we truly make friends with ourselves as we are, unconditionally. From that, we develop natural openness and genuine compassion towards ourselves and our world.
