July 2008
Presidents Message
District III – Candidate Forums
The District III (GOP) leadership has taken a proactive role in bringing to our community an impressive representation of candidates for the 2008 election year.
Advertised as Candidate Forum 2008 two forums, presented at the Mohave County Library, 1770 N. McCulloch Blvd., will be district sponsored; Saturday, July 26 featuring City Council, District 3 Supervisor, County Recorder, County Assessor, County Treasurer, County Sheriff, County School Superintendent, County Attorney, and Judge, Division 5 candidates from 9:00 AM until noon.
Saturday, August 2 will feature US Congressional, Corporation Commission,
State Senate and State Legislative candidates from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
Moderators will enhance this presentation of candidates by judicious application of timing constraints and hopefully enable the audience to question candidates relative to their agenda, etc.
The Candidate Forum 2008 will be an excellent opportunity for our community to become better acquainted with the candidates whom seek our vote in
September and November.
Lake Havasu Republican women will be volunteering their time in several capacities to promote this public service event.
Membership
An unofficial goal was attained in June when the 101st woman joined the membership of Lake Havasu Republican Women.
In response to our Mission Statement LHRW aims to enable our members to be privy to up-to-date Republican events in our State and Country; meet and confer with the Local and State politicians we have elected and generally benefit from their membership in the local Federation organization.
District III – GOP Office
We hear it at every group meeting and even at gatherings of friends and families; this is the most important election in our lifetime. And, it is! Each and every one of us may play a role in making this the most important and successful election of our lives. We are fortunate in Lake Havasu City to have access to a fine Republican organization with quarters at 2176 McCulloch Blvd., Suite 2.
LHRW has been a major supporter financially of the District III GOP office and, in addition, has sponsored volunteers who have vigorously manned telephones, voter registration drives, diners and picnics. The coming months and the importance of the upcoming elections mean that once more the women of LHRW will be relied upon to perform their volunteer heroics by spending time at the GOP office, talking to their neighbors and generally supporting the Party their singular efforts. You, the members of LHRW have the ability to swing the upcoming elections in a positive manner. Why? Because you have the experience; you have the background; you have the ability to once again be part of insuring Mohave County be counted a big “red” in 2008.
District III office hours for volunteer coverage will be 9:00 AM – Noon Monday through Friday in August; 9:00 AM – 3 PM Monday through Friday September and October (through the general election). The District III office will be closed for the month of July, however, all phone messages will be promptly returned at all times.
Call 866-8006 to volunteer in the office or to work special assignments; which might entail phone calls, writing assignments, preparing mailings, etc. There will be work for all and the pay-off will be victory in November.
Republican Picnic
Sunday, August 24…the beautiful and cool Hualapai, the setting for the 2008 Republican picnic. The delicious food will be augmented by equally attractive desserts supplied by the members of all the Mohave County Republican women’s clubs. Contact President Linda if you are unable to transport your dessert to the Picnic site. Desserts which must be at a maintained temperature are best transported by the donor.
Historically the Republican picnic has proven popular with candidates from throughout the State. Stands to reason, candidates love an audience and the beautiful and temperature blessed Hualapai guarantees a good turn out.
Tickets for the Picnic event should be available the July 14 meeting.
Postcards
In keeping with our desire to educate our community and after consultation with the general membership, LHRW has recently mailed 500 postcards to our neighbors, which:
Introduces our Club
Invites new members
Solicits volunteers for the upcoming election cycle
We are stressing our enthusiasm to elect Republicans in 2008 and are proud to publicly proclaim our intention by means of this mailer. We will be announcing additional avenues to interact with the community in the next several months using some of the suggestions of our membership. Lake Havasu Republican Women mean business in 2008.
