PERSONAL NOTE:
This is regarding my recent single, "American Idle" . I feel it is only appropriate to release such a daunting project during a time which challenges the definitions of our rights as US citizens. In doing this song, it is a concept I hope will transcend the boundaries of music and "pigeonholing", and open the door to a conversation in the club/dance community. I look around at what's going on in this country, and I know that we all feel this pervasive sense of helplessness at what seems to be a world spinning out of control. But as an artist and producer, I have to ask myself "What is my goal in this journey? Is it simply to make & play music? Or can I use the art I create to implement change? " More importantly, what can we ALL do to push things a little further in a better direction? Music is a release, and can be the best form of escape in a world that is so burdened..but with this freedom to express comes some responsibility. Music is a force, one of the most powerful forms of communication we have, through sound and movement...and so we should not confine it to formulas and mundane templates. We should use our voices AS WELL as our instruments. Sometimes we forget we have a voice....we limit ourselves as artists, just as we limit the use of our brains as human beings, and we need to challenge ourselves to make positive change with our talents when we see that things are becoming stagnant. Not everything has to be so poignant and introspective and complex all the time, but there needs to be a level of sophistication in our craft that gives us an opportunity to evolve. With this evolution comes change. We cannot hope to evolve as lothargic creatures of habit. What do we hope to accomplish with our work....money? fame? Those are some of the very things which have sidetracked us today. I am hoping to become a better person AS I become a better musician. I am hoping to motivate myself to become more aware and pro-active through my work, in addition to having a great time. After all, isn't that what life is about? Doing what you love best, and making a positive contribution to our world? We cannot hope to be a better country, or people, if we do not become better musicians & artists. And that requires the use of all of our muscles, all of our strength, all of our facets and abilities....not just our ears and bodies and feet. I realize it may not be everyone's mission to "save the world", but it doesn't look like a whole lot of people are at least making the effort. The great Marvin Gaye made a social commentary that defined a generation with his song "What's Going On'? Now it is time again to ask ourselves the same question, and find some answers. We owe ourselves more than what we give.

PERSONAL PROFILE & REMARKS

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.... my love for music started at the age of 11, when I won my first record collection from a local radio contest. After voraciously collecting for about 5 years, I got my first DJ job at the age of 16 in a Bourbon Street club, subbing for my mentor & best friend at the time. The jazz culture of New Orleans perpetuated my love for music of all styles. In high school and college, I studied music theory, learned the guitar...and went on the be trained in the opera, performing leading roles for numerous regional productions. I have had extensive training in video editing & production, with many of my visual works being seen in clubs all over the world. Also, I was one of the first "VJs" in the country to actually beatmix music video (VHS!), before all this technology made it so easy. Now, I'm still going strong, with every day still a learning experience. In an age where technology has compromised talent, I try to remain true to my musical roots. In addition to the usual remix projects, I write and produce original music as well. My first songwriting effort resulted in a grande prize songwriting award for Billboard magazine in 2001, and has set the tone for all my creative endeavors. With over 50,000 records and CDs to my collection, my training has been vast and influential, with genres including classics, house, NRG, disco, soul, funk, rock, new wave, electronic, alternative, trance, techno, tribal, and so on. While many DJs & producers adhere to one "style", I try to draw from an eclectic well of experience, and apply all that inspires me to create distinct moods. Every party, event & occasion is unique; each one demands an appropriate sound... but the redundancy and consistency of trends create a common thread which can tie the entire spectrum of sound together, and that's what I strive for. This may sound a bit complicated, but basically it's about balance. And without diversity, balance just doesn't exist.
