I'm Talk'n About St. Rocco's Cadets
I'm Talk'n About The "ROC"
Rocco's 64 show included 3 numbers from "Guys and Dolls" in cluding "Guys and Dolls", "If I Were a Bell", and "The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York". The remainder of their show consisted of "Fly Me To The Moon", "The House I Live In", " I Wanna Be Happy", "Washington Square" and " Some People". That *was* a super show. I remember hearing "Washington Square" for the first time Utter amazement. It put the arrangement my corps was doing to shame - big time. This was one of Hy's first great Jr. hornlines. They had some incredible "screamers" some of whom later went on to Sky. St. Rocco's *was* the "Junior Skyliners" to many folks. Some of the players from Rocco's are still active with alumni corps. Larry Girard, Jr.

WOW! I can't believe that I just surfed onto this site. I would love to hear from the Corp. I think of St Rocco's every day. I hope someone contacts me. The years with St Rocco's were the best years of my life.John Hickey
Mike - wasn't Ednie from St. Rocco's. He played the solo in Drietzer's remake of "Blood and Sand". I still remember Pepe saying that Jimmy played so loud, he was his own squad of three! :-) Andy

My involvement and success in the music industry as an adult stems from the wonderful experiences and joy I experienced in drum corp. I wish that today's youth had the opportunity that I shared with many of my friends from the inner cities of Newark, Bronx, Brooklyn. Unfortunately there are not many drum corps around in these communities. Best regards, Richard Baldwin Tour Manager, Blackapalooza Music Tour .
wow! harold, this is great! i would love to get the reunion together. keep up the "roc" spirit. Duke Cornwell

Hey! St. Roccos was the first, and maybe the only drum corps from New York City to go toe to toe  with Garfield Cadets, in the 60's, and some of the other greats in drum corps of that era, and win!

The mid-60's (64-66) probably saw the greatest parity amongst a large cross-section of Jr. corps. Along with Blessed Sacrament and the Cavaliers, the Boston Crusaders and Chicago Vanguard excelled. Other Eastern lines that could win at any time were St. Joe's of Batavia, Vasella, Bpt. PAL, St. Rocco's and St. Lucy's. Andy L.

As a member of Blue Rock I remember your your hornline and its' progressive repertoire. I also remember those blue jackets you wore - I loved your concert of Washington Square. What a hot corps! Jim

Hey Zip, Not for nothing but the best version of Camelot ever performed was performed by St. Rocco's in 1967. It was the last year St. Rocco's Cadets marched, and I was very proud to be a part of that. Let's give some credit to the guys who were on the field the last year 1967. Don't know where you were but there was no corps fielded after that. So 1970 is not correct. Jerry
this was a good time..thanks for bringing some of it back....sincerely........mario
