Our Club

We are a metal detecting club of about forty members. We meet at 7:30pm once a month on the fourth Monday night at the Greer Recreation Center in Greer, S.C. We meet each month except December and we have members from the upstate and from North Carolina.

Our Meetings

All members can enter their monthly finds on our board which has five categories;Coin, Jewelry, Military,Other Relic, and What-Is-It. Members vote on best of each category and points are accumulated each month for the Treasure Finder award. Total Coins are also counted as an added category. One point is received for each category entered and third place receives two points, second place receives three points, and first place receives four points. We have a banquet in January and prizes are given to those who have accumulated the most points. There is also a Treasure Hunter award where points are accumulated for different things done to aid or improve the club such as recruiting new members, participating in fundraising, and giving talks.

Our Club Hunt

Our club has a competition hunt in September or October each year. It is usually held at Lake Lure Beach in North Carolina. Two hunts are held with one having buried wheat pennies, Indian head pennies, buffalo and V nickels, and a deck of poker cards with coins folded in them. The best several poker hands from cards found win a prize.

For the second hunt, silver coins and tokens are buried. The tokens are exchanged for prizes. All club members are invited to join the fun.
