A Delaware Non-Profit Corporation

Federal Non-Profit Status pending

Dedicated to giving slaughter bound horses a second chance at life

Why?

Each week approximately 250 horses go through the sale ring in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Seventy-five percent of these horses will be shipped to slaughter that night. Many people feel these horses are sick, lame, or breeding culls. The truth is many of these horses are sound and healthy but simply ended up at the wrong place. Some of them were dumped by their owners who didn't want to care for them any longer. Some were dumped by camps that no longer had a need for them and didn't want to feed them through the winter. No matter what the reason, or the condition of the horse, no animal should have to endure the journey they are about to embark upon. These horses will be subjected to a horrifying trip and to a horrifying end. Some of the horses perish before they ever make it to the slaughter house. For more information on the trip and the sale at New Holland visit this website:

The Equine Placement Network

Our Goal

Our goal is simple.  We want to rescue horses from the sale or kill pen and place them in loving, caring homes. We will also offer horse owners a different outlet other than low end auctions to find homes for their horses.  These horses will be available for an adoption fee.  An adoption agreement must be signed.  These horses may not be sold, leased or bred. The horses will be available for adoption after their quarantine period.

We will also focus on raising public awareness to the issues of abuse, neglect, and the proper care and treatment of horses.  Much like the animals at our local shelters, people assume that if an animal/horse is bought at a shelter/auction it is somehow of lesser value than if it were purchased elsewhere. We plan to educate the public and show them that the horses going to these sales are horses deserving of a second chance.
