How tubing becomes a frame....
After I Obtain your measurements, I decide what would make you most efficient and select the tubing that will get you there first. Next, I will "draw" your frame...actually I design it on the computer in Autocad and plot (Print) the frame full size. I take the angles and tubing lengths and cut and miter the tubing to match the drawing. Now comes the fun part for me...I put the tubing together in the Fixture and "tack" it.
After the tacks have cooled, I take the frame out of the fixture and align it on the alignment table. After the alignment, I do the brazing throughout the entire frame. After cooling, the frame goes back on the table for a 2nd alignment. Then all the fillets are cleaned, and the frame is ready to go to the painter. This whole process takes about 40 hours from start to finish. Once at the painter, great care is taken to assure the final consumer is pleased with his selection of color and finish.

Why do I do this?
As a 14 year old boy growing up in Sacramento, California, I saw all my friends get new road racing bikes. I am not sure WHO started the trend, but needless to say, the whole neighborhood was suddenly addicted to riding. I followed suit and soon was riding all over the area up to 35 miles and a chance meeting with a local bike shop employee (the Infamous Penney-Farthing rider, Larry Robinson) suggested I take up road racing. There, the seed was planted. I did and finished my first race, a criterium on the same lap as the leaders. I held in there until the sprint. Not bad for my first race. I raced for about 7 years more, but my focus became more intent on Track racing. I was always looking to better my times and performance. Frame building became a hobby, and then eventually a business. I have been doing my best to make riders more efficient since the inception of Don Walker Cycles. My promise to you is that I will continue to make the fastest frame you can put underneath your body and back up my products.
