Our tour begins...

In the spring of 1993 a the comic-book anthology Wiindows (yes that spelling is correct) issue #5 was released featuring a story called "Masterpiece in Bone". The story was written by Mike Leonard and Illustrated by James E. Lyle. The editorial staff at Cult Press, publishers of that title, were so pleased with the results that half way through the issue they began hinting that they wanted to team Mike and I on another title...a continuing COLOR series called DoorMan.

Cult Press was only able to get one issue of DoorMan out before the company ran short of money and had to rethink its marketing strategy. Plans were made for a black and white DoorMan from Cult Press...but it never actually happened. ( So no matter what you read, or heard there is no Cult Press issue #2 or #3 of DoorMan!)

With the assistance of the Cult Press staff, Mike Leonard and I were able to take the series to Caliber Comics where DoorMan:Family Secrets #'s 1-4 were released. (As well as a nine page story called "Stolen Years" that was included in the Caliber anthology, Negative Burn).

About that time we were approached by a company that wanted to make DoorMan one of its 'flagship' titles, and hire Mike and myself to be part of the company's editorial team. We withdrew from our publishing arrangement with Caliber Comics and began to ready ourselves for the move to the new company.

Unfortunately, that company turned out to be the publishing version of Vaporware. I can't really blame anyone, and I won't mention the name of the company (just in case they someday get all the loose ends together and actually start the thing), but we were very disappointed.

Mike and I still have plans to resurrect the character. We still get the occasional fan letter from somewhere in the world (we have fans in England, Israel, and Australia). A couple of years ago we got very close to selling the concept as a TV series, and may still...God only knows.

The image at the top of the page has never been published. But it looks good now. Plans for a collected DoorMan book are still in the works, but have slowed to a crawl. Sorry to all the fans, maybe some day I'll get it together.
