Fab Four Five letterboxes at the Canfield-Meadow Woods Nature Preserve in Essex, Connecticut. About 3½ easy miles, 2 hours. A Walkman with Rubber Soul is highly recommended. Beatles "scholars" always say that Sgt Pepper was the seminal album marking the Mop Top's first flirtation with the new world of the Sixties, but we've always thought Rubber Soul, released in 1965, was the hallmark. It's as fresh now as it was then. Directions: There are three entrances to the preserve: this is our favorite. On Connecticut Rte. 9, take exit 3 and follow the Essex signs along West Ave. Turn left on Grove St at the library, then left again onto North Main St. After about ½ mile, turn left on Book Hill and after another ½ mile, left on Book Hill Woods Rd. Park at the end in the cul de sac next to the sign for the Meadow Woods Park and pick up a map on the way in.
