Practice Description
Dr. Ellis is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the specialty of Adult Neurology. He is not a psychiatrist, and he does not treat children. Dr. Ellis performs nerve conduction and electromyographic studies, used in the diagnosis of pinched nerves, focal or general weakness or numbness, and other such symptoms. Occasionally, a patient needing a clinical neurologic consult is incorrectly scheduled for a nerve/muscle test. Please us know if you think you were given the wrong type of appointment.
Dr. Ellis is NOT a primary care provider. He serves as a consultant to you and your primary care physician. Medication refills should come from your primary care physician, who needs to know all the medication you are taking from all physicians at all times. Your primary care physician will receive a report of the findings and neurologic recommendations from Dr. Ellis, and is welcome to contact Dr. Ellis if there are questions or problems. If you are taking certain medications, periodic lab testing may be needed. It is up to your primary care physician to determine whether or when lab tests are needed, and to change your medication if problems are detected. Dr. Ellis does not prescribe narcotics, and if you are seeking narcotics, you should not schedule an appointment, or should call to cancel your appointment.
Most Consultations are viewed as a one-time event, to render a neurologic diagnosis and treatment plan. Follow-up appointments with Dr. Ellis are not routinely scheduled, and rarely needed, as most neurologic problems with established patients can be handled by phone or email. Dr. Ellis closed all clinical patient care at his private office in 2001, and at the Wyatt CLinic in 2004. However, if face-to-face follow-up is needed, this can be arranged. Your insurance plan may require a new referral from your primary care doctor for such a follow-up. Dr. Ellis is not a member of any health maintenance organization (HMO) or preferred provider organizations (PPO). Such plans function to limit your access to specialty care, diagnostic tests, and available treatments. Dr. Ellis's recommendations will be based on what he considers most appropriate for your medical condition, but he cannot be responsible for restrictions in your insurance plan, which may prevent you from receiving the recommended care, or may not pay for it. You may contact Dr. Ellis for further neurologic advice following initial consultation, and most neurology issues can be safely and conveniently handled solely by telephone or Secure Messaging, or IF YOU ACCEPT THE LOSS OF CONFIDENTIALITY by internet contact. However, there may be a charge generated for this provision of medical care, which you will be responsible for paying, and is often not reimbursed by insurers. Dr. Ellis is licensed to practice medicine in Texas only. If you leave the Texas border, Dr. Ellis cannot provide further medical care or out-of-state prescriptions to you. If you need a copy of your medical records, the correct address to send the request is listed at the Netbusiness card link (http://card.netscape.com/drjohnellis) and is also covered at the Medem website, which has by far the most details about Dr. Ellis and his practice.
