DRUMBAFFLE   
   
  According to its makers, DrumBaffle is a new product that allows drummers
to achieve a tighter bass drum sound without sacrificing low-frequency punch, 
in a manner similar to the way port-holes in bass reflex speakers work. 
The DrumBaffle is a hard, rigid disk that replaces front bass drum heads, and 
installs in the same manner. The makers say that the basic idea of the 
DrumBaffle is that it traps energy inside the bass drum and releases it at just 
the right moment through the port-hole when the bass drum is at its maximum   
peak amplitude at resonance. The DrumBaffle comes in 18", 20", 22", and 24" 
models, and is available through Skyline Musical Products.   
   
  Bass drum performance is the concern of Skyline Musical Products and 
they've done something about it with their DrumBaffle. This ported, rigid disk 
replaces the front bass drumhead and is tightened with factory-installed 
brackets at each lug nut location. The goal of the Drum Baffle is to maximize 
the low-frequency response of the bass drum by tuning the beater drumhead 
membrane to the natural resonant frequency of the drum enclosure.

the beater drumhead membrane to the natural resonant frequency of the entire

as the porthole of a bass-reflex speaker cabinet which tunes the speaker 
enclosure to the natural resonant frequency of the driver. This controls the 
excursion of the driver at resonance and thereby extends the low-frequency 
response of the speaker.

  For a very heavy metal bass drum sound, placing a microphone a few inches 
from the porthole results in a bass drum sound that kicks away. The acoustic 
engine produced through the port-hole of DrumBaffle is powerful enough to 
be heard without amplification for every type of music with the improved 
sonic depth of the live acoustic bass drum sound.
