" Long-gone but not forgotten, drive-in theatres of Dallas,Tx"
Thanks for visiting my Dallas Drive-Ins page!   As I started doing some research on drive-in theatres, I discovered that resources and information on the subject were very scarce.  So , after much thought I decided to create this site.  Sadly, no open drive in theatres remain in the Dallas area today.  I have added addresses and comments on the drive-ins that I have information on but as you can see some listings are blank.
If you have any information, comments or just want to show me some luv please email me at:

BUCKNER BLVD. DRIVE-IN - 3333 North Buckner Blvd. at John West Rd. I'm not exactly sure of the closing date but it was demolished prior to 1981 and divided in half.  Lock 'N Key storage is on  half the lot and apartments on the other half. When it opened it had a mural of a stagecoach that adorned the screen tower, later that was replaced by a mural of a  giant clown and a circus scene.  The circus mural was painted by Reed Hubnell who also painted the same type moniker on other drive-ins, in Tx.  A few of them are the Chalk Hill, the Jacksoboro ( later changed to the Corral) in Lake Worth, and the Fred Rd. drive-in , in San Antonio.
" I remember going to this theatre as late as 77.  I will alsways have great memories of the Buckner, I went all the time with my father and sister, too bad the days of the Dallas Drive-Ins are gone"--George Hernandez

CHALK HILL DRIVE-IN  - 4501 West Davis Street.  Opened July 4,1941 ,closed in the late 1970's.  It had a single star painted on the screen tower, also replaced by a clown mural as mentioned above.  Today, nothing remains of the drive-in.
ASTRO DRIVE-IN -3141 S. Walton Walker Blvd. at Kiest.  Opened in 1965, the triple screen Astro was the last remaining "open" drive-in, in the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex. All that changed in the early morning hours of  November 25,1998 when a fire broke out in the concession building destroying it.  The drive-in had hoped to re-open after the fire but that never happened, it was demolished on Feb.15,1999 and no trace of the drive-in exist at the site today.

GEMINI TWIN -  11990 North Central Expressway at Forest Lane.  Opened April 15,1965 and closed in the late 1980's and the drive-in sat vacant till 1996 when it was demolished to make way for an Autonation  car lot.  The car lot closed and now the land is vacant.  It started out as a Twin and eventually a third smaller screen was added.  "It actually closed in 1986. In the final years they closed the smaller East screen(which had been an add on) and leased it to American Airlines, who ran a shuttle service there. Today another used car lot occupies the Gemini site using the former Autonation facilities."- Craig Davis
KAUFMAN PIKE -7041 C.F. Hawn freeway (175) at Jim Miller.  It featured a giant circus mural on the back of the screentower of an elephant and a train and different circus stuff.  It was torn down in 1986 and the Dallas Police substation is now on the property.
LONE STAR DRIVE-IN - 4600 Lawnview Ave. It started out as a legitimate theatre but was reduced to showing porn films in the 1970's. It had living quarters built into the screen tower at the bottom. Today, nothing remains of this drive-in and the property is being used by the Dallas School district for school bus parking.
