We no longer provide advertising or listings for animals not directly in our program. If you need to "advertise" your pets that need homes, please consider, NashvillePetfinders.com, The Tennessean's classified ads (under $10.00 for a week with great results), Traders Post (will post free), Nashville Scene (will post free ads).
Please screen potential homes for your pets. Ask applicants if you are allowed to come to their home to do a home check. Even if you are not able to physically go to their home, this will give you an idea of if they have something to hide.
Ask if they have children, other pets, can provide you with a reference. Ask if you can come and visit after they adopt your pet. Ask if you can bring your pet to them to see how they react to all the members of a potential new home. Please use some of these techniques to help choose a home for your pet. Ask for a fee, this discourages those who "collect" free dogs and cats. Some will collect free pets and send them to labs for testing. Write down a list of questions to ask all of those who are interested in your pet. If you know you need to find a good home for your pet, don't wait until the last minute to find someone. Post your pet your local vet office. Give yourself and your beloved pet time to screen homes. You owe this much to your pet(s) if you cannot keep them. Rescues are not to be used as "dumping" grounds for pets. Do the right thing and show some responsibility in finding a home for your pet.
There are ways to protect your pet in their future homes. Please use caution and do not give your beloved pet to just anyone. Just asking simple questions can sometimes help you "rule out" homes. Check their references. Anyone not willing to give you a reference is not worthy of your pet. Use common sense if you care about your pet.
We understand emergency situations arise and placement is urgent. This is different. All situations are different. But, if you have the time to find a home, please make this effort yourself and leave space open in rescues for shelters and emergency situations with life or death cases.
