guitarist Kevin Vigil is a guitarist/composer who communicates with his audiences at a personal level. He frequently programs his own compositions in conjunction with pieces by other composers. His compositions have been heard on public radio in Indiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Virginia as well as WGMS, WETA and WPFW in Washington, DC. Past seasons have seen Mr. Vigil performing as a soloist and as a member of Duo Con Brio (with his wife Barbara, flute/piccolo) in venues such as The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Yale University, the Embassies of Finland, Austria, Australia and the Netherlands, Keawalai Church in Maui, Hawaii as well as playing at a dinner for President Clinton and Yitzak Rabin at the State Department. Ronald Broun of the Washington Post wrote, "Guitarist Kevin Vigil played lyrically,..." after a performance of Joaquin Rodrigo's Fantasia para un gentilehombre with Washington Musica Aperta. Over the last three years, Mr. Vigil has had growing demand to perform with choral groups. He is very happy to be performing with the Master Singers of Virginia and the Master Chorale of Washington this season. The Master Chorale of Washington's performances will take place in New York in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer, and the Church on the River. Mr.Vigil received his MM from Yale University (1990) where he was the teaching assistant and a student of Benjamin Verdery. Since then, he has not only become widely recognized as a performer and composer, but as a teacher as well. His articles have been published in international guitar journals and his masterclasses have inspired dozens of up and coming guitarists. Many of his private students have gone off to study at conservatories and universities throughout the country and several are now pursuing careers as professional musicians. He is currently on the faculties of the the Washington Conservatory of Music and Northern Virginia Community College and is a DMA candidate at Shenandoah University. Kevin's debut recording Stories for Guitar was released in October of 1999. It features all original compositions for solo guitar, flute/guitar, piccolo/guitar and narrator/guitar. Special guests include Barbara Vigil (flute/piccolo) and Monika Gallegos (narrator).
