DAGOBAH Newsletter
The DAGOBAH Newsletter is updated monthly. Sometimes even in a timely manner. The most recent letter appears below:
February 6, 2001
On January 8th, DAGOBAH indulged in its annual foray into game show foolishness. Yes, that's right. We played our January game of ScienceFictionary. The guessing was fast and furious. Sometimes, it even was correct. Prizes of books, book marks, and other cool but weird stuff were given away at the end of the evening.
NEXT MEETING: Monday, February 12th at 7:00 p.m., Davenport Public Library Film Room.
TOPIC: Time Travel
On February 12, DAGOBAH will travel back in time to December 11, 2000. On that evening, the evil Blizzard Ghods chose to punish us with a snowstorm that resulted in the closing of the Library. That evening's topic was Time Travel.
We'll explore the concept of trans-temporal movement, a boffo SciFi plot device used by many authors. The works of Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, H.G. Wells and Connie Willis will be among some of those discussed. We'll look at machines, wormholes, and cosmic anomalies. Perhaps we'll even discuss television and movie portrayals of time travel. "It's about time. It's about space. It's about two men in a crazy place."
Additionally, the group needs to discuss our options for the month of August when the Library will be closed for renovations.
A book discussion group, DAGOBAH meets the second Monday of every month, 7 p.m., at the Main Library. DAGOBAH - The Davenport Area Gathering of Books and Humanoids - is a program of the Adult Department of the Davenport Public Library. The public is invited to attend each and every meeting.
