Gale Ellen Patton is the daughter of Clyde Johnston Patton and Mary Eleanor Kikly. She was born on November 19, 1941 at Bellevue General Hospital. I attended grade school at the Assumption Catholic School, I then went to high school at Bellevue High and graduated in 1959. I graduated on a Friday and went to work for Bell Telephone Co of Pa. on Monday.
I married William C. Dreves on Nov 10, 1961, the son of Charles and Helen Dreves. When Bill got drafted into the Army in 1961, we decided to get married. We where married in the Assumption Catholic Church and had the reception at mom & dad’s house. Shortly after we were married, he received his orders to go to Germany. I followed him to Germany 8 months later. We lived in Germany for about 12 months. ( that experience is a whole other story)
We returned home in 1963, I then went to work for Gimbel's dept. store and eventually went back to work for Bell Telephone Company of Pa. I work in various area’s within the company and in 1968 I became a union steward, in 1968 I then became the Division Secretary, then Division President and finally the Executive President of the Local, which covered all of the commercial/marketing personal state wide.
Our Local union then affiliated with the Communications Workers of America and I eventually became a full time staff representative for them. My responsibilities included such things as negotiating contracts both on the local level as well as serving on the national bargaining committees for both Bell and AT&T.
I also handled grievance and arbitration's and developed training programs for local stewards an also conducted training classes for the local stewards an assisted Local unions to perform their responsibilities. I was then promoted to Administrative Assistant to the International Vice President of District 13 which covered Pa. & Del. I continued with all of my duties and added supervision of some of our Staff Reps. Our office was located in Pittsburgh.
I retired from the Telephone Company after 30 years of service. However for the last 10 years of that time I was on full time leave (still accumulating service time) working full time for the union.
I retired on April 7, 1997. We sold our home and Bill and I became full time RV'ers. We had bought a 31ft. Winabago in 1989, while we were both still working. After retiring we traded that in on a 40 ft diesel motor home. On May 22, 1996 Bill had a major stroke. He worked really hard and recovered enough to enable us to full fill our dream of living in a motor home. However the stroke made it made it difficult for him to drive, so I did 99% of the driving I became most proficient tooling that 40 footer around and towing our van behind it. We traveled all over the country going out west several times, we often hooked up with my brother Ken and toured the same places. In 2003 we decided to settle down an have our new home built. We have lived in our new house since Feb 1, 2003. On our last trip from Pittsburgh to Florida we made quite a few stops shopping for our brand new house which was to be completed by the time we got to Florida. We moved in on.
We are still RVing but only on a part time basis. We have now traded our big motor home (40’) in on a 2003 Allegro 31 foot. (almost full circle). We now live in Leesburg, Fl. Full time. We moved into our house Feb 1, 2002.
