My name is Jim Jantzen and I am a pediatrician and amateur philosopher. I have attempted to synthesize the writings of various authors, scientists, and philosophers together with my own ideas on sociobiology, cognitive science, religion, and sexuality in these pages. A Statement of Faith: a one page summary of my beliefs and concept of God
Christianity Reborn:
Evolution and Christ: The history of Christianity is a horror story, which is not surprising since the force of Evolution determines that all societal structures / institutions tend towards corruption. We create the "Other" in our selfishness, but can overcome this in Christ.
Faith of self: I am nothing outside of the love of Christ, who frees me from the bondage of Evolutionary determinism.
Faith of Community: Christian love must occur within the context of community, and Western society today is drifting away from community in its emphasis on individualism.
The Uses of the Word: problems with using Scripture as a source of an ethic: historical contingency and contradictions
Jesus and the Law: The Golden Rule is radical and subversive, and the Law must be re-interpreted in its new light

WWJD?-- empathy & compassion. Tolerance & complicity in a pluralistic society. Problems with virtue ethics. Utilitarian calculations in the midst of abundance.
