Excerpt from Chapter 2, THE TREASURE HUNTERS "Someone's coming," Hugh whispered. "Do you think they are searching for the masked bandit's treasure, too?" They turned and peered over the creek bank to see if they could spot the intruder. They saw a black figure through the dense foliage. Could it be the masked bandit himself, come to dig up his treasure? Occasionally, the figure stopped, bent down and picked something off the forest floor. Maybe it was looking for clues that marked the spot of the buried gold. The boys, peering over the bank of the creek, felt their hearts pounding inside their chests. As the dark cloaked figure turned towards them, they ducked down. Thomas thought there was something familiar about the figure. It wasn't the masked bandit at all - it was Father Neumann on one of his plant-collecting expeditions.
