Public access to the Internet is available to all users of the Eau Claire District Library as an information and educational resource. The Library makes no guarantee, either expressed or implied, with respect to the quality or content of the information available on the Internet.
Patrons are asked to sign in on the clipboard and read this policy before using the Internet computer.
Time limits:
It will be necessary to sign up to reserve computer time. An individual has up to 1 hour per day if others are waiting, 2 hours maximum if no one is waiting. The time limit is automatically shortened if the library is ready to close.
Use:
Only one person may use the Internet computer at one time. No more than two persons may sit around the computer at one time (this includes the person using the Internet). The Library reserves the right to ask individuals to discontinuethe display of information and images which may cause a disruption as determined by the Library Staff.
It is not permissible for the users of the Internet computer to:
* Use the library network to engage in any illegal or fraudulent activity;
* Download or FTP files to library computers;
* Damage or alter the setup of the equipment:
* Publicly display images which other library patrons or Staff might find offensive to view.
Parents or Guardians are responsible for supervision of their children who use the Internet and for information selected and/or accessed by their children.
The Internet computer equipment and software must be used as installed.
All users are liable if they permanently or temporarily damage any equipment or software.
Violation of these policies will result in suspension or loss of the privilege to use these resources.
Costs:
There are no charge for use of the Internet computer. Printing charges are 20 Cents per page. Printing is limited to that which can be completed within the allotted daily time limit.
Abuse:
Abuse of the Internet workstation will result in loss of Internet privileges. Abuse is defined as follows:
*Failing to sign up to use the Internet computer.
*Attempting to load other software on the computer.
*Refusing to vacate the station when asked to do do by the Library Staff.
*Tampering with the computer equipment or software.
Staff assistance:
The Library cannot guarantee that Internet-trained staff will be available to assist users at all times the Library is open. Users shall assume the responsibility of learning to use the equipment and resources. Time permitting, staff will try to answer specific questions about the Internet and offer suggestions for effective searching.
