In 1980, Jessie was ranked #10 show chessie and #1 female in the USA. Line-bred for her first breeding to eastern shore Maryland gundog cousin CH. Miles River Gunner in 1978 produced son CH. Neptune's King of Campgaw and daughter CH. Neptune's Darkstar Diana. These Jesseka offspring each produced a Best In Show winner, BIS CH. Neptune's Mullica Mischief and BIS CH. Poisett's Wild Mountain's Paw Print WD. Her second breeding to National Specialty Winner, CH. Redlion's JJ Sample WD produced National Specialty BOS winner, Am/Can CH. Neptune's Coness and CH. Redlion's Neptune Water Riple who each have produced many beautiful show winners and fantastic hunting retrievers including Sporting Group winner CH. Redlion's Bear of Upper Creek WDX**.

A little bit of history...
Back in the 'seventies, when I was footloose and fancy free, I went looking for a companion to travel around with in my volkswagen bus. Planning a cross-country trip to Alaska, I opted for canine rather than human company and got my very first Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Jessie the Chessie. We were kindred spirits traveling the roads of life together, hunting, hiking, swimming and living everywhere under the stars!
Four years later, an AKC judge saw my Jessie the Chessie and told me I should be showing her. So we started travelling around to the dog shows and my four-year-old unknown female started taking Best of Breed away from the top dogs in the country.
Researching her pedigree, I found she was sired by CH. Ashby's Decoy WD, littermate to BIS BISS CH. Ashby's Chocolate Chip from Roy E. Walsh's well-known line of native eastern shore Maryland "Ashby" hunting retrievers as seen in Walsh's book "Gunning the Chesapeake". Careful line-breeding produced the foundation stock for what is now truly a dual quality line of chessies.

At age four, "Bay" went to Tennessee for a summer of training in return for stud service. He was marking, lining, doing multiples when his trainer, Terry Smith, founding director of the UKC's Hunting Retriever Club, was killed in a car accident. Terry's seasoned young hunting dog, Hey Chessie Fetch It Up WD (who boasts grandsires DUAL CH. TIGERS CUB and DUAL CH. CAPITAL CITY JAKE) was in whelp with "Bay's" first litter when she came to New Jersey and injected high performance into Neptune Chesapeakes in 1984.
