Edwin S Mack
I am searching for relatives of my father Edwin S Mack Jr.

After searching for him since I was about 17, I finally found my oldest half brother, Edwin S Mack III, in the fall of 2000.  A wonderful man with marvelous children and wife.

However, missing still are cousins and other half siblings, as well as Jonathan Adair Mack who has had no contact with his family for over 20 years.

update 12/06:  Sadly I found that Jonathan's daughter, Jonna Lee Mack, died in Dec. 1995 before turning 28 in a car accident.

There are many things we have been TOLD about Edwin that are not verifiable... a lot of what my mother was told conflicts with what he told his second wife and her children.  However, here are the things that I have heard with the stories as resolved as possible.

Edwin had official papers from things such as drivers license, pilot license, military papers, and social security, both places and dates have that he was stating he was born in Florida or NY in January 1910 or 1911.  Edwin III says that he was told our father was born in NY, so that is the most likely truth.

He  was the grandson of German (Jewish) immigrants, although he claimed they changed their names in Austria and imigrated from there. Edwin had not heard the Austrian connection, and since his mother cared for and was connected with our father's mother until her death, his information is probably much more accurate.  His sister, Adelaid, was married to a man named Frederick Dawson who was connected to the Pratt Whitney Aircraft company. He claims that his parents disowned him when he went to work on a ship, leaving him $1 so he could not break the will.  He had made claims to my mother that his mother knowingly killed his father by massaging a blood clot in his neck or some such thing. In reality, his father committed suicide after the stock market crash.  Supposedly his sister did not have any children, and that seems confirmed.  His brother, named John Arthur Mack, may have had children. I have recently learned through the census report that a John Arthur Mack lived and died in NJ.  His parents names were Edwin S and Louise Mack.  Through Edwin III we now know that our grandmother was not dead, as our father told my mother, back before they met, but was actually alive until at least the early 1950's or later (he isn't sure).  He had also told my mother that his parents were both only children, which Edwin III says is not true and there are cousins.

Barbara (Marin) McIntyre was born in 1960 in Florida and is also one of his children. She had been given up for adoption by Edwin's second "wife," Emma Sue Mack, but was able to locate and contact Gwen in 2001.  There are other children that we know of. One is a Barbara Mack, also born in Florida.  Gwen's mother reports that there is another daughter born in Gaffney, SC as well as probably one named Edwina born in Shelbyville, TN.  In addition, there is another child in Luxembourg.

Edwin was an industrial engineer.  He had been a cook in the military.  He worked for Chattanooga Gas Company for several years, then formed his own company.  He traveled extensively, often home (Ashville NC) only on weekends or every other weekend.  He claims that he went to MIT, but neither his social security nor name match the records I could find.  He had a private pilot license.

If you are related, either as one of his children or possibly to his sister or brother, cousins, or know of Frederick Dawson's family, please contact me.  EdwinSMack@aol.com
