TEAM NEWS 10/16/02
As another season draws to and end..........I would like to discuss the change in attitudes.
When i was younger (wow....i never thought i`d say that) a kid was usually happy to be on "the team". They respected a coach`s desicion on who started...or who played....and lived with it. They may not have agreed, but they usually understood that the "coach" was doing what he or she thought was best for the team.
That said, i can honestly say that i haven`t always played the "best" player. Sometimes players give 110%, show up everyday, put forth a GREAT attitude and willingness to learn. Others may be a LITTLE better skilled........but have none of the other attributes. I will play the later. THEY EARNED IT.
The difference of attitude between when i played and now is that players now would rather whine then step up and do what it would take to be that "other" player. Do you really think a coach wouldn`t play you because they "don`t like you"? A coach wants (and at some levels needs) to win as much as anyone....maybe more sometimes, and will play who they think will give them the best chance of doing so.................. Sometimes that is the player with the better "attitude".
So trust me on this one................get a ball, practice, work on having a good attitude and work ethic...........and it will go a LONG way in getting you more playing time.
