The Nile River

Ibis in the BushesFish is a very important food for the people who live on the banks of the Nile.  It was also a very important food to the ancient people of egypt.  There are lots of different types of fish in the Nile, and the ancient egyptian people believed some of them were magical.  They also painted pictures of the fish inside their tombs and temples.

The Nile is also home to many different types of birds.  One of these is the Ibis.  The Ibis is a beautiful white bird, with long legs and a long thin neck, and a long thin bill.  You can often see them wading in the shallow areas by the river banks as they look for fish to catch in their bills.  Mousey thought the Ibis were very beautiful and liked to watch them fly.  In this picture, a tiny little Ibis is wading in the water just to the left of the rocks.  If you look really carefully, you can see the Ibis and his reflection.

The Ibis was a very important bird to the ancient Egyptians.  One of their most important gods looked like a person with the head of an Ibis.  His name was Thoth and he was the god of wisdom and writing.
