A CHILD's WORLD
by ERNIE TURLA
I always wondered as a child
If (roosters') combs were watermelon-made
And if the floating clouds above
Were cotton candy nicely laid!
As curious as a child could be
I also wondered at the sight
Of crocodiles which I thought were
Made of tough rubber tires and bite!
I wondered how the forest green
Got blue on mountains far away
I wondered if the winter snow
Brought the ice cream that made my day!
When rain would fall all over me
And get myself all soaking wet
Was it those angels in the sky
Again on nature's call, I bet?
Could it be that those twinkling stars
Came down as fireflies at night
And that those echoes when I yelled
Were from one trying to pick a fight?
Was there a battle going on
When lightning flashed and thunder rolled?
Somehow I was just too dumb small
In all that stuff I was not told!
