Amnesty International Mid-Cities Local Group

Introduction

Our Local Group writes letters, organizes Human Rights events, and works in coalition with otherlike minded groups in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Activities / Events

We recently held panel discussions on:

Torture in certain countries in East Asia, Latin America, and Cental Africa. Guest speakers from these countries spoke about their experiences and impressions.

Environmental issues that have a Human Rights dimension, e.g. Environmental Racism, displacement of indigenous people due to corporate projects, etc.

US Government involvement in international Human Rights abuses, e.g. School of the Americas trained military officers regularly get implicated in "Dirty Wars" in their countries.

Locally, our group has formed a link with the Carswell Women's project which advocates better treatment of women prisoners in a Federal prison in Fort Worth.
