ABOUT THE ARTIST
As a young child, I drew pictures constantly of animals. Dogs have been my constant companion throughout my life and it has always been my dream to someday have a horse. Art was really the only subject that came easy to me. My development continued through the second year of college when my talent was put aside for marriage and to raise a family.
In 1999, after my second battle with cancer, I decided to quit my job of 16 years to re-discover my talent as an artist. I began taking classes and quickly realized my passion as an artist had never really disappeared. It had silently been waiting for me to return. Now, after many years of searching, I am finally doing what I love.
Each portrait I create leaves a piece of my soul with it as I bring to life your beloved animals for you to cherish forever.
My portraits are done in pastel and pencil. Pastels are made from finely ground pigments bound together with a small quantity of gum to form a stiff paste which is then shaped into the form of a stick and allowed to harden. I use sanded pastel paper, which allows excellent adhesion and build up of colors that gives my work a rich, three-dimensional appearance. My pencil portraits are done on acid free heavy weight vellum or medium surface. Both mediums are sprayed with a fixative that helps bond the pastel and pencil to the paper to ensure long life.
