Martha T. McGehee

This indenture made and entered into this 19th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty between Elisabeth McGehee, G. G. McGehee, John McGehee, Wm D. McGehee, Adelia McGehee and Stephen Nowlin all of the county of Chrittenden in the State of Arkansas of the first part- and Martha T. McGehee of the county of Todd in the State of Kentucky of the second part. Witnessed that the said parties of the first part, for and in considerations of the natural love and affection for the said party of the second part ,and for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt where to is hereby acknowledged hath given bargained sold transfer and convey all their right title and interest “as heirs of James McGehee deceased, formerly of Montgomery County State of Tennessee” in and to described as follows

“to wit” on the north side of the Cumberland River and on the Water of the Blooming Grove Creek, beginning at a dogwood and poplar in south boundary line eighty poles east of the south west corner of Alex McCrabbs track which calls to be west of said Blooming Grove Creek, and being bounded on the north by Bartons & McKeys tracts and on the east by Marchants track running thence south forty five poles to a poplar in Calliers? North boundary line formerly Robert Nelsons thence west with the line of the same on hundred and twenty poles to a stake in said McCrabbs west boundary line. Thence south one hundred and five poles to his south west corner thence with his south boundary line to the beginning containing sixty acres of land be the same more of less granted to the said McCrabb by Letter Patent bearing date January 9th, 1814.

Also apart of one other tract beginning at a dogwood and poplar the beginning corner of the above mentioned tract of sixty acres and runs thence north fourty poles to a stake thence west eighty poles to a stake in said McCrabbs west boundary line thence with his line south forty poles to his south west corner thence eighty poles to the beginning containing twenty acres of land be the same more or less being a part of the tract where on the said McCrabb formerly lived.

Also the following described tract or parcel of land lying on the north side of Cumberland River on the water of Sugar Creek and bounded as follows beginning at Harris G. Barber south east corner in James McGehee’s west boundary line thence west to said Barbers beginning corner fifty three poles thence south forty poles to a hickory a corner of said Barbers thence west forty five poles to a poplar said Barbers south west corner thence south sixty one poles to a hickory, thence east ninety eight poles to said James McGehee’s west boundary line thence with said line to the beginning one hundred and three poles containing fifty acres be the same more or less granted to the said James McGehee by letter patent dated April 18th A. D. 1825

All of the above described tracts of parcels of land lying in the county of Montgomery State of Tennessee and all of said described tracts or parcel of land belonging at the time of his deceased to James McGehee and upon which he lived at his death with all the appurtenances and hereditaments there unto belonging or in any wise appertaining to have and to hold unto the said Martha T. McGehee said party of the second part during her natural life and at her death to be divided between her children now living and begotten by her husband James McGehee Junior now deceased to them the said children their heirs and assigns forever.

In testimony where of the said parties of the first part have here unto set their hands and seals the day and date first above written.

Be it known that on the 19th day of August A D 1850 came before me an acting and duly commissioned Justice of the Peace in and for the Township of Proctor in the County and State afore said Elisabeth McGehee, G G McGehee, Wm D. McGehee, John McGehee, Adelia McGehee, and Stephen Nowlin parties of the first part to the within Deed of Conveyance to me personally well known and being duly examined acknowledged that they and each one signed and sealed the above Indenture for the reasons and purposed therein contained.

Given under my hand this 19th day of August A. D. 1850

William McGehee, son and heir at law of Jacob McGehee, late of Prince Edward County; said William McGehee from the desire he has to fulfil his father's intentions to make clear title to 400 acres of land to said Joseph Trueman hereby conveys the said land on Bush River, Prince Edward County, patented by Jacob McGehee, February 5, 1753, and which is part of the tract said Trueman now lives on and being the whole of lands possessed by said Jacob McGehee by said patent, containing 400 acres on which the said Trueman settled and now lives (Prince Edward County, Deed Book 7, p. 15)
