St. Martin, Bishop of Tours

St. Martin of Tours France is the oldest known person with the Martin name and a famous and honored man in France.
Maria Martin

Maria Martin was a female naturalist and artist who studied under John James Audubon and contributed her atr to his "The Birds of America" and "The Quadrapeds of North America". Maria married Dr. John Bachman and her life has been written about in various books and web sites including "Had I The Wings The friendship of Bachman and Audubon" by Jay Shuler.
Dr. Sidney Walter Martin

Dr. Martin was a historian and President of Emory University 1957-1962 andVice Chncellor of the University System of Georgia. He was a professor at University of Georgia and Stetson. He wrote several books and articles and was a member of a number of educational, community and other organizations.
Rev Johann (Nickel) Nicholas Martin

Johann Nicholas Martin immigrated to America in 1754 with his family and followers and led as a schoolmaster and then became a Lutheran minister. He served in several early churches in the Dutch Fork, SC area including Zion, Bethel, Pomaria, Appii Forum. During The Rev. War he served at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Charleston, SC. He helped establish the German fusiliers that fought in Charleston and The German Friendly Society in Charleston.
Dr. Martin Dunaway Young

Dr. Martin D. Young of Moreland, Ga. graduated from Emory University in 1931 and received his masters in 1932. He received his Doctorate from John Hopkins in 1937. He was a well known expert in the field of malaria research. He  is listed in American and Women in Science and Who's Who in the World. He was also a professor at U of Fla College of Vetenary Medicine.
John C Martin/Henry Martin/Jennie Sue Martin

These Martins were pioneers  in establishing Moreland, Ga. with John C moving to Coweta County circa 1834. Henry Martin was a Justice of the Peace and  owner of Martin Grist Mill in Moreland. He served in the local Civil War Militia unit. Jennie Sue Martin was a strong lady that lived to be about 100 years old.
Frances Ann Martin

Frances Martin graduated in 1948 from University of Georgia and was an opera singer. She sang the leading roll of Lady MacBeth in Germany. She is a celebrity in Europe and lives in New York City.
John James Audubon, John Woodhouse Audubon, Victor Gifford Audubon (4/11/03)

John James  Audubon was the famous Orthinologist and scientist and painter of birds and animals. His son John Woodhouse maried Maria  Rebecca Bachman, daughter of Harriett Martin and John Bachman. Harriett was sister of Maria Martin. Victor Gifford married Mary Elizabeth Bachman, daughter of Harriett and John Bachman. John Woodhouse and Victor contributed to their fathers work.
Dr. John Bachman (4/11/03)

Dr John Bachman married first Hariett Martin and after she died her sister Maria Martin. Dr Bachman was a very close fried and associate of John J. Audubon and contributed to his work and paintings. Dr. Bachman was also a pastor of St Johns Lutheran Church after Paston Nicholas Martin and was highly respected there. He is burried under the alter of the church.
Johann Nicolaus Martini and Johann Peter Schmidt (5/11/03)

These are pastors that served in Herstein church J N Martini #20 (1779-1789) and J P Schmidt #21(1790-1807) and both sem to bedirect line ancestors that remained in Herrstein after our immigrant Johann Nicholas Martin imigrated to USA in 1754.
