EMERSON ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL POLICIES
The student hours are from 9:25 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.
Arrival procedures @ 2006 are as follows:
• Students who walk or ride a bus/van have been lining up out front of our school.
• Students who are dropped off by parents/guardians have been lining up at the back of our school.
• Teachers have conveyed how much easier it is to supervise the students with these new procedures in place.
• At times, the back of our school is colder than out front, due to the wind. When this is the case, and it is too cold to stand out back, students are supervised in the gym until they go to their classrooms.
• All students begin walking to their classrooms at 9:15 a.m.
• Just a reminder, drop off time is between 9:00-9:20 am. There is no supervision outside before 9:00 am and after 9:20 am. Therefore, please do not drop your child off before 9:00 am or after 9:20 am. Your cooperation is appreciated and essential for the safety of our students. Thank you.
Note: All visitors, parents and family members must report to the office immediately upon entering our building to sign in and receive a visitor's badge.
Dismissal Procedures:
• All bus students will be dismissed to the front of the building.
• All students who ride home with their parents will be released to the rear of the building, by the cafeteria exit. We will stay with your child until you come to the door to get him/her.
• There will be no parking in the front of the school between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m., and 3:00 and 3:30 p.m.
• No parents will be admitted to the building between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. Please wait for your child outside the cafeteria entrance or the front entrance if you walk your child to school or home.
• If you need to take your child out before 3:00 p.m. please use the front entrance and call ahead.
• If you come to the nurse during the day, we ask that you please use the front entrance.
• All parents who enter the school building must enter through the front and sign in at the office to receive a visitor's pass.
• Students may not return after school for forgotten books or papers that they need to complete their homework. Students are reminded of homework at the end of the day and adequate time is given to pack necessary books and papers. We appreciate your cooperation.

HEALTH ROOM
Nurse Betty Marsden and Health Technician Pam Nessen
In December 2003, Emerson was presented with an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). Nurse Betty Marsden and Principal Rhoda Stein were pleased to accept the donation from the PTO and Student Council. The donation was deemed as the "best gift to Emerson we hope to never use."
Illness:
If a child has symptoms of illness present, he should remain home in order that other children do not become infected.
Under no condition should the child be sent to school for the school nurse to diagnose the illness. The school nurse is permitted to administer first aid only.
Symptoms or illness which are not acceptable for school attendance include, but are not limited to: cough, cold, sore throat, fever of 100 or more, diarrhea, vomiting, severe headache, swollen glands,
discharge from nose, untreated rash or skin infection, eye discharge, contagious diseases. After any contagious disease, a doctor's note is needed for your child to return to school.
If a child becomes ill during the school day, the nurse will take his/her temperature. If the temperature is elevated, or other symptoms listed above are noted, the parents will be called to pick up the child.
If the parent cannot be reached, the emergency contact person(s) will be notified to come for the child. Please fill in the emergency card completely, including the emergency contact and return the cards promptly. It is necessary to have an emergency number other than your own to help your child.
Medications:
In order to protect the health and safety of our students, parents must contact the nurse to determine if students may bring medications, which must be taken during the school day to the Health Room or if it would be necessary for a responsible adult to bring certain medications to school.
An appropriate pass will be issued for this student to leave class and report to the Health Room at the designated time. Medication must be brought in the bottle with the prescription on it indicating the name of the student, medication, amount to be taken, time to be given, and the physician's name.
Non-prescription medication must also be left in the Health Room. At no time should a student have any medication in his/her possession during the day.
