SPSR Geology Web Site Statement

This site is chiefly devoted to the geologic observation, evaluation and analysis of the Cydonia region of Mars and to Mars-related phenomenon in general.  The following articles were submitted to NASA in July of 1998, along with other papers by SPSR Members:  Mark Carlotto, Vince DiPietro and John Brandenburg.  A Summary Report of the above articles was written by Horace Crater, President of SPSR, and can be seen on the McDaniel Report Web Site

Hopefully this Geology Web Site will grow larger and more elaborate with time.  The first article explains in some detail, that there may be significant evidence for water, water erosion and precipitation on the surface of Mars, specifically in the Cydonia region.  This evaluation also suggests that the Cydonia region of Mars is geologically complex and that it is possible that water was present on Mars in much later epochs than is currently believed.  A Glossary of Terms can be accessed at various points in this and the following document.

The second article is by Harry Moore, another geologist and member of the SPSR Geology Team.  His article discusses a possible ice-filled (water-ice) impact crater which is located north of the area in Cydonia termed "The City."  This find is of importance, because it suggests that water may play a substantial role in the Martian subsurface, even at latitudes far from the polar regions.  The Mars Polar Lander spacecraft, which was launched by NASA on January 3rd, 1999, has two "high-impact" probes aboard which, if successful, will penetrate up to a meter beneath the Martian surface in a search for water (See ABCnews article).  If the Polar Lander is successful in its endeavor, then this article and the interpretations by Harry Moore should take on a profound significance.  Stilll, questions will remain.  How much water is present in the subsurface, are the deposits extensive, how deep is the "water table" and where did the water originate?

The Case for the Face is a compendium of articles concerning "The Face on Mars" as well as other Cydonia anomalies.  Included in the book are works by SPSR members, Dr. John Brandenburg, Dr. Horace Crater, Daniel Drasin, James Erjavec, Lan Fleming, Harry Moore, Chris O'Kane, Dr. Brian O'Leary, Dr. Randolfo Pozos, Ananda Sirisena, Cesar Sirvent, Dr. James F. Strange, Dr. Mitchell Schwartz, Erol Torun, Baron Johannes von Buttlar, Professor Stanley McDaniel and Dr. Michael Zimmerman.

Articles by geologists James Erjavec and Harry Moore consider other aspects of the Cydonia region anomalies as well as the Pathfinder Mission.

A brief review of the book will be made in a future update of  the SPSR Geology Web Site.
