Local historian consultant Mr. K. Tyrrell assisted me with obtaining historical tidbits on this building to add to other sources. Dating in the 18th century, 105 King Street was a warehouse(s), part and parcel of the Potomac River, which later, William Ramsay and his heirs filled in the area. The building was originally used for storage of ship's cargo, became a field hospital during the civil war, and later in the century, beef and related farm meats were cured inside this building. Early 1900's, a soft drink was produced and bottled there, and during the Prohibition, another tenant brewed much stronger carbonated drinkables. In 1976, "Mr. Ray" Giovannomi, converted this historic building into a restaurant, and has been serving fine seafood since. Mr. Ray passed away in 1998.
Investigations: Oct. 22nd and Nov. 10th, 2004
I have asked fellow ghost hunter Mr. Hogan, to be a backup supplementary agent on this first investigation of this three level establishment. Equipment used on this case were two digital, one 35mm, one infrared video camera, an electromagnetic field meter, and Hogan also conducted an EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio recording session. One of the managers had a few extraordinary incidents he was elated to share with me. "PC", evening shift manager, escorted me to the second floor dining room (section was closed to customers at that time) and pointed towards an old wooden portrait painting of an 18th century naval officer that hangs on a brick wall. PC described to me an event he had witnessed one evening as he was in process of closing the restaurant for the night. As he was walking by this portrait, he noticed that it was no longer mounted in place but rather unhooked and levitating about a foot away from the wall, seconds later the portrait crashed onto the floor! He stated that the portrait did not just fall, but appeared to have been thrown to the ground with great force. The wire at the back of the frame was still intact, he added.
I have conducted EMF scans throughout the restaurant, on both nights, and only picked up high spikes near and around the staircase and the second floor's east wall area, however, these readings were caused by the building's electrical wirings and related fixtures.
Other employees also shared their strange incidents. A bartender was closing the first floor's west bar and as she was walking out to lock the doors, she heard noises coming from behind the bar that sounded like ice cubes being rustled around its dispenser, and then suddenly a hand full of ice was tossed across the bar and shattered against the wall! Another event involving an empty glass that gently slid across the bar's counter, which was witnessed by two employees. "The glass moved by itself, about a foot, and there was no one behind the bar" one manager whispered to me.
There is also a room that is located on the second floor where wine and related beverages are stored behind a locked door. On a few occasions, the lights in this room would mysteriously switch on, usually just before the manager walks out the restaurant at closing. PC also mentioned that he had heard voices coming from other areas of the restaurant. "One night I heard a man, a woman, and a child chattering at a distance, which sounded like it was coming from another floor, and I was the only one in the building!”
Conclusion:
Hogan's EVP were inconclusive (too much background interferences from customers, kitchen, staff, etc.) First investigation: I have captured two anomalies on 35mm film, one of a glowing orb next to an old, unused dumbwaiter in the attic, and other, a mysterious "red entity" floating a few feet from the 2nd floor portrait. Hogan also digitally photographed an orb in front of this infamous painting. Second solo investigation did not reveal anything unusual.
Update:
One year later, October 2005
I have spoken to two managers on duty that afternoon, one of which being PC, pertaining to any recent paranormal activity that may have occurred since my last official visitation. PC stated that things have been rather quiet lately.
