FallisPhoto - Photography and Illustration
I am a freelance illustrator and fine art photographer. I have been doing illustration since 1988, when I made my first sale to W. Paul Ganley's Weirdbook Magazine. I do darkroom manipulated photography (not Photoshop) and line art (pen and ink) illustration and the occasional piece of "straight" (unmanipulated) fine art nude photography.  All of the artwork here has been previously published and the copyrights are registered.
Most of what I do is darkroom manipulated photography. I do texturizations, photomontages, sabatiers, hand coloring, and so on. Usually, I base my work on nudes. Yes, I work with nudes. No, this does not mean I get lots of sex. I am a photographer, not a predator. I take photos.

Here are a few of my rules for working with nudes.

1. I never hit on my models, and I make sure my models know it. My libido is turned off whenever I am working, and that model goes more or less permanently on the "Do not touch" list. You can't get good photos if your model is worried about when you are going to start pressuring her to have sex.

2. I encourage my models to have fun. I tell jokes. We laugh a lot. Looking into a woman's eyes, I want to see something there, not just a blank stare.

3. The model is in absolute control at all times. I am not bossy. I suggest ideas and so does the model. If she says no, then no it is.

4. I have a feedback form that I give to the model after the shoot. One of the things I ask is how the shoot could have been better for him/her. I take the responses seriously, and if they are practical, I try to implement them in future shoots.

5. I assume full responsibility for my model's safety. I carry a gun when shooting outdoors. I know how to use it. My models know this. In over 20 years of photography, I haven't ever had to use it, and hopefully I never will, but it's there if needed.

I pay my models, but I am not interested in photographing models who are motivated solely by money. I create art and I look for models who enjoy creating art too.

In addition to my photography, I collect, restore and use vintage cameras. Currently, I have about 40 of them, mostly rangefinders or rangefinder-equipped view cameras (I think they're the best types of cameras for figure photography). These are what I use to take most of my photos. I work almost entirely with film, although I have a digital camera that I occasionally use for testing the lighting (when I am using strobes).
