Don't Cry for the Horses

By Brenda Riley-Seymore

Don't cry for the horses that life has set free
A million white horses forever to be

Don't cry for the horses now in God's hands

As they dance and they prance to a heavenly band.
They were ours as a gift but never to keep

As they close their eyes forever to sleep

Their spirits unbound on silver wings they fly

A million white horses against the blue sky.

Look up into heaven you'll see them above

The horses we lost, the horses we loved

Manes and tails flowing they Gallop through time
They were never yours, they were never mine.

Don't cry for the horses. They will be back someday,
When our time has come they will show us the way
On silver wings they will lift us to the warmth of the
sun.
When our life is over and eternity has begun.

We will jump the sun and dance over the moon

A ballet of horses and riders on the winds to a
heavenly
tune. Do you hear that soft nicker close to your ear?
Don't cry for the horses, love the ones that are here.
Don't cry for the horses lift up your sad eyes

Can't you see them as they fly by?

A million White Horses free from hunger and pain
Their spirits set free until we ride
again

Dear Friends,
Wednesday Morning January 29, 2003 at 7:30, I walked into my barn to find that my mare had a beautiful filly by her side. But in a matter of moments, my heart sank. There next to my Fancy girl was a solid white filly. It was only a few months ago, that roaming the Internet, did I find a site that told of foals born with this fatal defect, called lethal white. I dove into the stall and turn the filly every which way I could to try and find some sorrel on her, anywhere. But to no avail. She was a lively filly that morning, walking around the stall, trying to nurse and even kicked up a little while I was trying to examine her. Mean while, Fancy was such a good mother, as the filly tried to nurse, I could see fancy straining to spew her milk into the filly's mouth.
Immediately after, I called my husband, Blake and informed him of the White Filly. He knew what that meant, because I had shown him the website and we had talked about it often. We thought surely it couldn't happen to us. He rushed over also to help me try to find some sorrel. But like me, found none. We called our vet, Dr. McDonald and he was at first excited to hear that Fancy had had her baby, but when I told him that the filly was solid white, his heart sank also. He only give her about 12 hours to live. This was his first foal of the year and was so sad that this had happen to us. We decided to wait until 3:00 for him to come out to do what we knew was necessary.
Meanwhile, we called several of our friends, neighbors and family and told them the bad news. Jerome and Tiffany Davis, the owners of the filly's Dad Special Status (Chief) were some of the first to come. They too, like me were so excited about the pending birth. During the next 7 hours, Here are a list of friends and family that came to help me and grieve with me, as they were all so looking forward to Fancy giving birth. Lelia Beeson, Ashley Roper, Chase Robertson, Courtney Henderson, Jerome and Tiffany Davis, Carson Davis, and a few members of their family and friends, Danny Roberts and his daughter, Alisha, Gary Farlow, and Roger Beeson. I just don't know if I could have handled it, if it hadn't been for all those that came and shared my grieve.
By now, I have named the Filly.....Snow Flake seemed to be very appropriate. She was a big filly and the longest legs. She had to swat down to nurse, and she also had the big rump, that the Davis were so proud that there Stud threw. She was so healthy and full of live, wagging her tail, and so strong, that it was just inconceivable that she wouldn't live. But as the hours past, we were starting to see her going down hill fast. Her legs were starting to wobble. She had a hard time getting up and finally, she started having signs of colic. She would lay down hard and just start rolling.
Dr. McDonald arrived at 2:30. By then Snow Flake was just laying down and not moving very much. She would try and raise her head, but just drop it back down. He checked her vital signs and check to see if any of the fecal matter had made it out the back end, but none was to be found. We said our good-byes to Snow Flake and Dr. McDonald helped her out of her misery.
The rest of the day, I stayed with Fancy. I gave her a massage and she seemed to know, that even thou she had lost her filly, she would never lose us. We were great company to each other. The way she would raise her head up and down when I was releasing the tension in her neck muscles was unbelievable. It was as though she wanted me to know how much I was helping her, that she was helping too.
I hope I didn't bring all of you down today, by sending this to you. But I wanted to let you know about my Fancy girl and that Snow Flake is in heaven living with angles that brush her and care for her and love her as much as I
do and always will have her memory.
