Meet Zorkie, Zekee & Crunchy
Zorkie (left) is a 5 year old male Prehensile-tail Skink native of the Solomon Islands. We have had him for 4 years. Zekee (right) is our female and she is 4 years old. Crunchy is only a baby, about 18 weeks old. Not Zorkie and Zekee's baby, but one we adopted about 5 weeks ago. PTS make wonderful pets if you are willing to devote much time to keeping them healthy and happy, and trust me, ours are spoiled rotten!
NEWS FLASH!!! Zorkie and Zekee became parents on Feb. 25, 2000. Zekee gave "live birth." We named the little thing Lightning, for the time being, and if you could see the speed of this critter, you'd know why we are calling it that! We have since renamed Lightning. It seems he's developed the cutest little black mustache so we changed his name to Chaplin. I hope some of you will remember who Charlie Chaplin was? Will keep y'all posted on any future events.
We also have an Argentine Black Tegu, his name is Skeezix. He is about 2-3 yr. old and almost 4 ft. in length, and 5lb. A very healthy specimen, and just as spoiled as our Skinks! Figures! Well, we love our reptiles, what can I say? We recently also adopted an Ornate Uromastyx. She is an absolute doll, and spoiled isn't the word for it! She does NOT want to be in her hutch when we are home!!! She want's to be held, and it doesn't matter by whom! She will crawl up under your chin or around the back of your neck and just stay there. And I mean "STAY THERE!" Like for hours! Really! We must love our critters, who else would put up with that? Not too many people I know. I think I'm beginning to like animals better than people for obvious reasons.
For those of you who don't know what a PTS is, here is a partial quote from one of the best books on the market regarding PTS. The author, Philippe De Vosjoli wrote the following in "The General Care and Maintenance of Prehensile-tailed Skinks. "They're like creatures out of a fantasy or science fiction book: small aliens, gnomelike creatures who live in their own special reality, yet demonstrate just enough responsiveness for us to get the sense that they have some awareness of humans. It is the large eyes, large rounded head and alertness that capture our attention. For humans who are affected by such things, the little kid in us who is still amazed by the world we live in, is thinking, "Neat! Fantastic! Wonderful!" Something in us also yearns to learn something from these nonhuman life forms: secrets of the reptilian mind, revelations about the world we live in and the many forms of consciousness that inhabit it. These creatures present us with opportunities to become just a little more conscious and knowledgeable than we were prior to our encounters and involvement with them." I recommend this book to anybody interested in reading more about Prehensile-tailed Skinks.

Our Pet's Favorite Activities
Mostly PTS just like hanging out someplace, like the top of their habitat, my livingroom drapes, my shoulder, or the top of my head. One point I must make here however, they must use the potty-towel before allowed to roam freely. It's not a big problem, but you still don't want to have an accident in public if possible.

Skinks love to go camping.......
We have had our PTS on many campouts, and it seems that they really enjoy being in the woods. I guess it must somehow remind them of being in the wild. They just sit and smell the air, and observe their surroundings with great intensity. Like us, it seems that they become more aware of the new surroundings about them like we do. It's very interesting to watch them in this different environment.
